Captain America Coverage - Mainstream Media

After the New York Daily News broke the Return of Captain America story yesterday morning other media outlets including The New York Times, USA Today, and CNN quickly picked up on the coverage.

Although the original Daily News story did not mention the tie-in between the Captain America: Reborn mini-series and Captain America #600, which went on sale on Monday, both the New York Times story (by George Gene Gustines) and the CNN Report (by Chris Kokenes) did mention Captain America #600.

Conan O’Brien on The Tonight Show added an economic perspective to the story, quipping: “It’s been reported that Marvel Comics is getting set to bring back Captain America. They’re going to do this as soon as they get a loan from Captain China.”

Here’s a list of other media outlets that have picked up the story:

Is Captain America Coming Back From The Dead?

April 23, 2009 by tcgames · Leave a Comment

Is Captain America coming back from the dead?

Circumstantial evidence seems to point that direction. Marvel’s solicitation release for the upcoming “Reborn” mini-series in July lists “solicit to be revealed soon” coupled with the teaser pictured with this article have many assuming that Captain America’s coming back. Add in a lack of description for “Captain America #601″ and you’ve got a lot of evidence pointing to Cap’s return.

The new mini-series is a collaboration of Ed Brubaker and Bryan Hitch with covers from John Cassaday and Alex Ross.

Captain America was famously killed off in 2007 during the Marvel Comic’s Civil War storyline. The character has remained deceased since that time with the exception of flashbacks and an appearance by his ghost.

Marvel’s Updated Movie Release Schedule

March 12, 2009 by tcgames · Leave a Comment

ComicVine.com has posted a list of release dates for Marvel movies coming out in the next few years.  I hope Marvel keeps putting out a quality product, as we’ll all benefit from it in the end.

There’s been some rumblings about “Iron Man 2″ and “Thor” in the news lately.  If things go according to plan, Marvel is going to become a movie powerhouse with all the projects they have coming out.

Marvel has just released a press release stating the new dates.
Iron Man 2 on May 7, 2010 (unchanged)
Thor on June 17, 2011 (changed from July 16, 2010, that makes sense)
Spider-Man 4 on May 6, 2011
Captain America on July 22, 2011 (changed from May 6, 2011)
The Avengers on May 4, 2012 (changed from July 15, 2011)

The plan is to have all the movies (except most likely the Sony produced Spider-Man) interwoven together for the release of The Avengers.  We will get a Marvel superhero movie each summer from 2010 to 2012.

Captain America, Daredevil Comic And Film News

January 21, 2009 by tcgames · Leave a Comment

Comic Writer Ed BrubakerEd Brubaker, who writes Captain America and Daredevil comic books for Marvel, told reporters to expect a big shock in the upcoming 50th issue of the Captain America series he writes. Leading up to that, the stories of the new Captain, Bucky and Sharon Carter (who killed Steve Rogers while brainwashed) will get complicated. Brubaker also has news about the coming Captain America movie, as well as other Marvel films he may be involved with.

“Lots of big stuff is coming,” Brubaker said in a group interview last week in Universal City, Calif. “This summer’s going to be really exciting, big stuff with Captain America coming up. Currently in the storyline, Bucky is sort of the new Cap, and he’s being faced with this horrifying past as the Winter Soldier. So that’s all sort of coming to a head. We’ll have a whole issue soon devoted to Sharon Carter and her memories of the day that Captain America died and starting to see things from a different perspective, actually; maybe learn some new mysteries.”

In the Daredevil universe, a familiar villain will return. “Kingpin’s about to come back to town, and it’s not going to be pretty,” Brubaker said. “I just saw some pages this morning from an issue that’s all the Kingpin, that’s a solo issue about the Kingpin in Spain.”

Brubaker added that he’s also busy starting a new comic-book series. “[I] just launched a new book called Incognito that is about a guy who’s like sort of a pulp villain living in witness protection,” he said. “That’s a huge sellout nationwide, actually, and we’re going back to print on that. I’m [still] writing Captain America. Daredevil, just finishing up a big storyline in that, and a couple special projects for this coming summer that I can’t talk about yet. Really big Marvel stuff, not crossovers, but big Marvel stuff. You’ll like it if you read comics.”

As more Marvel movies go into development, Brubaker expects to be involved in a Captain America film as well. “I think I’m going to,” he said. “I’ve talked to the Marvel Studios guys, and I think I’m going to be part of the brain trust on that, like they had for Iron Man. They’ve talked to me about it already. I talk to those guys a lot.”

As for the rumored Daredevil movie reboot, Brubaker is not in the loop. “I mean, I’ll be involved if they want me to be, but no,” he said. “I’ll be involved in any of that stuff they want me to be. I’m just trying to weasel my way in on as much of it as I can.”

The movie Brubaker really wants to see is Iron Fist, which was one of Marvel’s earliest movie proposals in a version Kirk Wong would have directed, starring Ray Park. Lately, Iron Fist has been on the back burner with director Steve Carr.

“I’m really, really pressuring them to do an Iron Fist movie, because I think that would just be awesome,” Brubaker said. “With our take on it, it’d be great, I think. They’re interested, so we’ll see. I’m hopefully going to meet with them tomorrow and just try to push them some more. They’re interested in it. Marvel Studios has a lot of plans, though, so I’m just trying to sort of get my way in as soon as I can.”

Joe Johnston to Direct Captain America!

November 10, 2008 by tcgames · Leave a Comment

Joe Johnston (Jurassic Park III, Hidalgo) has signed a deal to direct First Avenger: Captain America, Marvel Studios’ take on its classic comic book character, says The Hollywood Reporter. Marvel’s Kevin Feige is producing.

No writers are on board, but the studio, which is hearing pitches, expects to hire shortly.

“This is a guy who designed the vehicles for ‘Star Wars,’ who storyboarded the convoy action sequence for ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark,’ ” Feige said. “From ‘Rocketeer’ to ‘October Sky’ to ‘The Wolfman,’ you can look at pieces of his movies and see how they lead to this one.”

Created in 1941 by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon for Timely Comics, Captain America is the heroic alter ego of Steve Rogers, who is rejected by the Army for being too sickly and undergoes an experiment that takes him to the pinnacle of human form. Paired with an indestructible shield, he became a symbol of the war effort, in and out of comics.

The character disappeared in the 1950s but was revived during the early era of Marvel Comics. He was reintroduced as part of the Avengers, the absence explained by having him being in a state of suspended animation during a war mission until found by the superteam.

First Avenger: Captain America is scheduled for a release on May 6, 2011. It will be a World War II-set movie, and the character will appear in the modern day-set The Avengers.

October 23, 2008 by tcgames · Leave a Comment

Captain America: Theater Of War - Operation Zero PointTC Games has a first look at Captain America: Theater Of War - Operation Zero Point, Marvel’s One-Shot on the First Avenger during WWII.

The first in a series of specials covering the length and breadth of the larger-than-life legend of Captain America, as told by the industry’s leading experts in the field! First up, it’s 1944, and wouldn’t you know it? Them sneaky Nazis have managed to crack the secrets of electro-magnetic physics…yeah, that’s right: apples may fall down in the free world, but schnitzels are falling up in the skies over a mysterious lab in a Polish forest, thanks to a little help from a nearby forced-labor camp. Sure, we could send in the Marines, but why bother when we’ve got Captain America?! But even Cap may be meeting his match against the lab’s sadistic cybernetic commandant. Because everyone knows, the only thing worse than a Nazi is a Robot Nazi!
