‘Wolf Pack’ Stars Cast For ‘New Moon’

March 25, 2009 by tcgames · Leave a Comment

'Twilight'If you follow Stephenie Meyer’s official website, you might have already heard this news, but we’re bringing it to you anyway. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Weitz has cast the Wolf Pack for “New Moon”, all of whom will make their big screen debut in the “Twilight” sequel.

Joining the humans of Forks, Washington (and fellow werewolf Taylor Lautner) in their fight against the vampires will be: Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Tyson Houseman. All the actors are of Native American descent, with Sioux, Purepecha and Hualapai being the tribes represented among the new cast members. That’s a good thing for fans of the series and the Native American community, and it’s been one of the major perks of the “Twilight” name. The series is a big enough draw that Summit can focus on casting the characters appropriately rather than landing big star power.

They may be newcomers now, but “New Moon” may make them instant celebrities, especially among the Twilighters here at the MTV Movies Blog. We’ll undoubtedly be getting to know them one by one over the course of filming — and filming is getting closer every day.

Now, if Summit could just announce who is directing “Eclipse” …

Twilighters, are you happy to see another piece of the “New Moon” cast fall into place? Are you excited to meet the Wolf Pack? Which characters are you still dying to see cast?

Dakota Fanning Talks Twilight Sequel ‘New Moon’

January 31, 2009 by tcgames · 1 Comment

Dakota FanningSummit Entertainment’s newest film, Push — starring Dakota Fanning (pictured) — may have been the main event at its premiere last night in Los Angeles. But the studio still trotted out several Twilight actors to walk the red carpet, and the upcoming sequel New Moon was definitely on everyone’s mind — including whether Fanning would slip on evil Jane’s fangs. “Dakota Fanning would be great as Jane,” said Ashley Green (goodie vamp Alice Cullen). “I really hope that rumor becomes reality.” Fanning, however, said she wasn’t quite ready to bite. “I think it is too soon to say for sure whether I will or won’t be in [New Moon],” she told EW.com. “But it would be really cool to do it. I am a very big fan of the books. I read them all and Jane is an interesting part. We haven’t really sat down and talked about it. So we will see. It was a good experience working with Summit. I guess I now have an in at the company.”

Meanwhile, Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen) told EW.com that much like future werewolf Taylor Lautner, he’s been hitting the gym in preparation for the April shoot. “Bring on the wolves,” grinned Lutz. “Emmett can take ‘em.” Lutz also says he’s read the New Moon script, and it’s “amazing.” Fellow Cullen clan member Greene also said she’d just gotten her hands on the script. “I felt like a spy reading it,” she said. “It does come very close to the tone and the events that are in book 2. There are a couple of things that were changed which I think make it more interesting for the visual medium but nothing that will upset fans of the books. I think it is safe to say that it will make everyone happy.”

Perhaps there’s a little Cullen clan favoritism going on at Summit, however, since actors Rachelle Lefevre and Edi Gathegi — i.e. members of the Bella-and-Edward-hating vamp clan — both said they hadn’t seen the New Moon screenplay yet. “They are guarding the script like it is gold,” said Lefevre, who added she’s already planning how to get into the mindset of the vengeful Victoria: “I have to figure out how to channel that much hatred and grief healthily because that is a pretty dark place to go.” There may be another reason, meanwhile, that Gathegi’s in the dark on New Moon: He recently told producers he’d signed on for a spring Broadway production of the August Wilson play Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. “When I told [Summit] I was going to the stage,” said Gathegi, “they said, ‘No you’re not. We need you.’ And I said, ‘Cool. Let’s try to do both.’ We start the play in February and go until June. They are in, like, day 3 of negotiations to figure out if I can do both.” But don’t worry; Gathegi says he’s committed to playing Laurent. “Worst case scenario,” he says, “I get to hang out with my vamp friends and be in what is destined to be a huge movie released [on] Nov. 20.” (Reporting by Carrie Bell)

René Haynes, the casting director for New Moon, this year’s follow-up to the smash hit Twilight, has announced an open casting call for the film, which is scheduled to go into production in a couple of months. The film will be released in November.

Casting Scoop has all the details, as well as a few auditioning pointers, but if you’re young Native American, you may have a shot:

“Seeking Native American Teens and Young Adults,” the posting begins, “Casting Director René Haynes and her staff are very happy to accommodate any Native teens and young adults (who look very youthful) who are interested in sending them an audition.”

So there you go. The next steps are to submit a photo and a contact number to info@rhcasting.com by January 30th. I have a feeling if you get cast, you’ll be squarely on team Jacob.

‘Twilight’ DVD In Stores March 21st

January 15, 2009 by tcgames · Leave a Comment

Twilight is set to be released on DVD on March 21st, which is such a coincidence because that’s also, as I’m sure you know, National Abstain From Sex with a Brooding Vampire Day. What luck!

The film is already something of a pop culture touchstone, with a massively successful series of books setting up the fourth-largest opening weekend of 2008. Twilight singlehandedly made Summit Entertainment a more competitive studio, at least in the short term, and it made instant stars out of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

With $185 million in domestic earnings and counting and over $300 million in the global markets, Twilight was one of the biggest success stories of the year.

Stephenie Meyer becomes Biggest Selling Writer In U.S. For 2008

January 12, 2009 by tcgames · 1 Comment

Author Stephenie MeyerStephenie Meyer, whose novel Twilight launched a vampiric franchise that led to November’s hit movie of the same name, was the biggest selling writer in the U.S. last year. She moved 15 million books as of Dec. 28, according to figures released by Nielsen BookScan USA.

Meyer’s novels accounted for a remarkable four of 2008’s top 10 titles, and nine of the top 50.

Her most recent novel, Breaking Dawn, was the No. 1 book of the year, selling 3,310,000 copies, followed closely by her debut novel, Twilight, with 3,175,000 copies. It’s rare for sales of older titles to return to the bestseller lists, but her 2006 novel was boosted by the release of the film, which proved so successful that a cinematic sequel was immediately put into the works.

Harry Potter creator J. K. Rowling came in at No. 8 with The Tales of Beedle the Bard, followed closely by Christopher Paolini’s Brisinger at No. 9.

Looking Ahead: ‘New Moon’ movie

December 31, 2008 by tcgames · 9 Comments

Sarah Jaffe over at Newsarama has some thoughts about the future of the ‘Twilight’ saga in the cinema…

I’m a formerly-resistant Twilight convert who’s now seen the movie twice. I’m about halfway through the third book, and having just finished New Moon, I’ve got more thoughts on the film adaptation as it moves forward, with a new director and possible other changes.

The Twilight books are written in first person and read like a teenager’s gushing diary, with little description of action–or even of characters besides hair color, size, and beauty. This allows readers to project whatever they want to see onto them, but makes it hard to create characters for a performance.

But the books get better as they go along–fewer adverbs and gushing descriptions comparing Edward Cullen to male models, and more action. There are motorcycles, cliff diving, werewolves, more evil vampires, and a daring daylight rescue scene where Bella gets to do the rescuing, for once. So New Moon has the potential to be a better movie than Twilight.

Will ‘Twilight’ Become A Comic Book?

December 29, 2008 by tcgames · 1 Comment

Twilight's Bella & EdwardAt a recent “TwilightLive” event, MTV’s resident “Twilight” authority Larry Carroll was asked by a fan if there would be graphic novels based on the vampire love story anytime soon.

Given the fact that we’ve seen comics and graphic novels based on everything from Barack Obama to “The Ghost Whisperer,” it’s not only a valid question, but one that seems like the next obvious step in “Twilight” mania. After all, a marriage of Stephenie Meyer’s wildly popular series and comic books — arguably one of the hottest storytelling mediums going today — seems like a match made in vampire heaven, right? (Read some of our own ideas for a “Twilight” comic series in the Splash Page blog.)

Naturally, one would assume that comic book publishers would be lining up for the chance to give “Twilight” the four-color treatment, but surprisingly, when asked directly if they’d made any attempt to obtain the rights for a series of “Twilight” comics or graphic novels, nearly all the comic book publishers MTV News contacted gave the same response: “No comment.” Exactly why they chose to remain silent varied for each publisher, but if you’re looking for a similar situation in terms of popular books that never made it to the comic shops, look no further than “Harry Potter.”

“What I have heard — like ['Harry Potter' author] J.K. Rowling supposedly did — Stephenie Meyer had it in her deal that there wouldn’t be any comics, that that licensing wouldn’t be available,” speculated Dark Horse Comics senior managing editor Scott Allie, who works with writers such as My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” creator Joss Whedon.

“I’ve heard of similar things, where basically an author or creator didn’t want to have comics because that extends the story in a way that’s out of their control,” Allie continued. “The film is going to adapt the ‘Twilight’ novels very faithfully. If you do comics, does that spin the story out in some new direction?” Read more
