Jon Favreau Promises ‘Iron Man 3′…Someday

It’s not a big surprise that Marvel wants a third Iron Man movie. Spider-Man will have at least four films, X-Men has already spawned that many, with at least three more to come. Fantastic Four and The Incredible Hulk won’t be that lucky.
But how can we be sure there will be a Tony Stark trilogy? ‘Cause Jon Favreau says so. “There’s an Iron Man 3. Here’s how I know: When they make the option deals, they include Iron Man 3. So I know they’re planning on three,” he said at Comic Con.
“Whether that would be before or after Avengers…they’ve announced that Avengers is next, but they pushed back The Avengers once which I thought was encouraging,” Favreau added.
‘Iron Man 2′ Shoots Footage At Edwards Air Force Base

I’m not sure if you know that the new Transformers movie worked with the Pentagon on some technological issues, but Steven Spielberg is a pretty powerful guy. Another summer tentpole movie also recently leaned on the government, with Iron Man 2 shooting at Edwards Air Force Base in California.
It’s far from the first time Edwards has been used - and in fact, the first Iron Man spent a couple days there - and given that Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) deals in weapons contracts, it makes sense for the sequel to wind up there, too.
“Edwards has a long association with Hollywood,” said Col. William Thornton, 412th Test Wing commander. “We have just about every aircraft in the Air Force’s current fleet, 360 days of good weather per year, which is great for filming, and a dessert terrain and landscape perfect for any scene of a deployment.”
Robert Downey Jr. In Armor On ‘Iron Man 2′ Set

Iron Man 2 is currently in production in someplace called “southern California,” wherever that might be, and yesterday, Jon Favreau and company made use of Randy’s Donuts, an instantly recognizable landmark I first spotted in the video to Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” Of course, since I was just a kid, I thought Randy Newman also owned the donut shop. How cool would that have been?
The famous donut shop is the site of a scene apparently inolving Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.), with Stark lounging on top of the restaurant and making use of giant donut on the roof.
Iron Man 2 - Demon In A Bottle?

Here is some speculation from the folks over at io9.com… Are we jumping to wrong conclusions by linking recent leaks about the Iron Man sequel and thinking that it really is the start, at least, of the boozy Tony story? Maybe… but we doubt it.
The facts are these, as Jim Dale used to say: First, we had Robert Downey Jr.’s cryptic comments that the heavy metal sequel will not be what we’re expecting:
The enemy comes from within… It’s very very much about, it’s one thing to say you’re Iron Man, it’s another thing to understand that responsibility. And, if that sounds like a familiar theme, trust me, it’s not. This film is three times more fun… and strange [than you'd expect]. Like, it used to be, my weird thing was “Can everyone siddown” at press conferences, and people were like “Boy, Robert’s really doing some strange stuff.” We’re going real far out in this one.
And now we hear that the first prop to be built for the movie is a toilet. For Tony Stark to be sick in.
So, was Downey’s comment about his former “strange stuff” a veiled addiction reference? Is this second movie going to be all about Tony turning to drink when he can’t deal with life as a superhero and the CEO of Stark Industries? It’s beginning to seem that way… although we’ll be amused if it’s all a swerve and the toilet vomiting comes as the result of some villainous plot from the Black Widow, whoever ends up playing her.

Moviefone.com names “Iron Man” the best movie of 2008!

“Pound-for-metal-alloy-clad-pound, ‘Iron Man’ is 2008’s most unequivocal cinematic triumph.”

Robert Downey Jr.: 2008 Entertainer of the Year, Entertainment Weekly
“Downey wanted ‘Iron Man’ so badly he spent three weeks compulsively rehearsing every conceivable line reading for his audition. ‘I had amendments and ancillaries and pop-ups for every part of the scene — if it went off in one direction I could add A, B, or C. It was madness,’ he says, ‘but also the most positively reinforced ritual I’ve ever performed. If Aleister Crowley had a younger brother — it was that type of s—.’”

“Iron Man”: Favorite Movie, USA Today’s Pop Candy
“I know I’m about to catch heat for this, but I can’t lie: If you ask me which movie I enjoyed the most this year, which film made me laugh and gasp and feel like I wanted to see it again as soon as I saw it the first time, well, that was Iron Man. I can’t imagine anyone but Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, and the flying scenes … well, I’m a sucker for a man in midair, and those moments made me feel like I was soaring through the clouds alongside him. Bring on the sequel.” — Year-end list: My favorite movies of ‘08, by Whitney Matheson
“Iron Man”: 2008 10 Best List, Wall Street Journal
“‘Iron Man.’ Just as ‘Wall-e’ expands — vastly — the idea of an animated feature, this Marvel Comics production expands the notion of a mainstream summer action adventure. The genre, it tells us, doesn’t have to be ritually stupid, pointlessly violent or insistently inane. There’s room for sophistication, genuinely dazzling gadgetry and scintillating comedy along with the obligatory action set-pieces. The film isn’t perfect, but Robert Downey Jr. gives it a brain and a big heart as the occupant of the shiny red suit. He’s half man, half robot and all star.” — The Best of 2008: A Tight Race for Top Honors, by Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal Read more
Jon Favreau In As Iron Man 2 Director?
July 10, 2008 by tcgames · Leave a Comment

According to DeadlineHollywood.com, who continues to make light of the Marvel/Favreau fiasco, negotiations are coming to a close, and Jon Favreau is definitely getting what he wants to helm Iron Man 2. This from Nikki Finke…
It’s not officially announced yet, but I’m told that Marvel Studios and Iron Man director Jon Favreau have reached a deal for him to helm the sequel, due out in 2010. (Robert Downey Jr had a sequel clause in his contract so of course he’s on board…) Marvel Studios boss David Maisel was quick to put out a “definitely” richer offer to Favreau, but not quick enough for Jon — who used the Internet to rile up the movie’s many fans by spreading nonsense that Marvel was dragging its feet with an offer and then lowballing him. Granted Maisel is no day at the beach himself, but, seriously, could Favreau have been more of an asshole?
Come on now Ms. Finke, Jon never said anything publicly that could have remotely been construed as “riling up the fans.” He simply stated the situation when asked about it, and he was a complete gentleman every time–never implying that Marvel’s delay was anything more than a busy movie season. He never even mentioned that he was being “low-balled.” That rumor came from inside Marvel itself. What riled us fans up was Marvel’s sheer rudeness and lack of gratitude for a job well done. It’s obvious Maisel was either playing “games,” or truly didn’t want to give the guy a proper increase in pay.
